Ask most solo service vendors how much they will earn next month, and you'll get a shrug. Not because they don't work hard - because nothing in their workflow produces that number until the month is already over.

The only three inputs you actually need

  1. Every scheduled service visit for the next 30 days.
  2. The price attached to each visit.
  3. Which of those visits are recurring AMC customers vs one-off jobs.

That's it. If you log this consistently - even in a simple app like VendoNX - you already have everything needed to project next month's earnings before it begins.

A five-minute Monday forecasting habit

Forecasting doesn't need to be a monthly ritual - it works better as a weekly five-minute check that keeps the number current as jobs get added, rescheduled, or cancelled.

  • Open your job list and confirm nothing this week is missing a price.
  • Check which AMC renewals fall in the next 30 days - add them to the forecast.
  • Note any gaps: days or weeks with too few visits scheduled.
  • If a gap shows up, spend that week's five minutes deciding how to fill it - not the last week of the month.

Why this changes how you run the business

Once a slow month is visible weeks in advance, you can actually do something about it - push AMC renewals, reach out to lapsed customers, or take on extra jobs. Read the full story of how one RO technician used this exact approach in our income forecasting case study.

Common forecasting mistakes to avoid

A forecast is only useful if the numbers behind it are honest. The most common way vendors undermine their own forecast:

  • Counting a job as confirmed income before the customer has actually agreed to a date.
  • Leaving AMC renewals out of the forecast because they "usually just renew" - until one month they don't.
  • Forecasting once a month instead of refreshing it weekly, so it goes stale halfway through.
  • Ignoring cancellations - a cancelled visit should come out of the forecast immediately, not linger as phantom income.

Getting started this month

You don't need a perfect system on day one. Start by writing down every job you already know about for the next 30 days with its price - that alone will get you closer to a real number than most vendors ever see. Tighten the habit from there.

I check VendoNX and I already know - next month is ₹18,000. If a month looks short, I find new customers before it even arrives.
